DIY Coloured Pasta

We love making coloured pasta because it can be used with any activity for your little ones to explore. There are so many ways to dye pasta but I wanted to share with you all my favourite way to dye coloured pasta. I have used spaghetti in this post but you can use any kind of pasta.

Ingredients

  • Food Colouring
  • Pasta
  • Water
  • Zip Lock Bag

Method

Step 1.
Fill up your pot with water and bring it to boil. Add your pasta and let it cook until al dente. I used half a packet of spaghetti with these measurements.

Step 2.
Once your pasta is cooked to the correct consistency strain it and rinse with cold water to cool it down.

Step 3.
Take your zip-lock bag and add about two tablespoons of food colouring with half a cup of cold water.

Step 4.
Close up the bag, give it a good shake and squish to mix through the dye and let it sit for about 2 minutes.

Step 5.
Once the colour has soaked through, take your pasta and rinse it through some cold water to wash away any left over dye.

BAM…You have just made some vibrant coloured pasta.

Other ways to explore with coloured pasta:

  • Spaghetti cutting tub
This allows your child to gain fine motor skills carefully holding each spaghetti strand and using safety scissors.
  • Discovery tub
Hide different objects to allow your little one to discover the hidden treasures.
  • Ocean tub
Add sea creatures to create an underwater sea life.
  • Spaghetti measuring
Let your little ones use the spaghetti strands to measure different items with different lengths, and compare the measurements.
